Hi Antoine, stell dich doch bitte kurz vor und gib uns ein paar Informationen über dein Studio?
Mein Name ist Antoine Simonin, Innenarchitekt aus Paris. Nach einigen Jahren mit Andrée Putman und Jean-François Bodin habe ich 2014 das STUDIO ASAÏ gegründet. Unser Fokus liegt hauptsächlich auf Wohnprojekten für private Kunden in Frankreich und im Ausland. Wir sind derzeit fünf Designer und ein Art Director, die eng in einem sehr familiären Team zusammenarbeiten.

Can you please introduce yourself and provide some information about your studio?
My name is Antoine Simonin, and I am an Interior Architect based in Paris. After spending a few years with Andrée Putman and Jean-François Bodin, I founded STUDIO ASAÏ in 2014. Our studio primarily focuses on residential projects for private clients in France and abroad. Currently, we have a team of 5 designers and an Artistic Director working closely together in a familial atmosphere.

Wie würdest du deinen Stil beschreiben?
Ziemlich eklektisch, um ehrlich zu sein. Wir versuchen bewusst, nicht den gleichen Stil in jedem Projekt zu wiederholen. Ich kann mich für viele Dinge begeistern: Minimalismus, alte englische Herrenhäuser, Navajo-Muster, Beleuchtung der 60er Jahre, Hamptons-Stil,... Unsere Projekte sind eine Art Synthese all dieser Stil-Richtungen, wobei wir nie den einfachen Weg gehen und versuchen nicht einfach bereits da gewesenes zu reproduzieren. Diese Referenzen sind wie Echos, die wir in die neue Zeit überliefern und mit minimalistischen Entwürfen anreichern. Man neigt dazu Erinnerungen zu glorifizieren und oft kann man sie nicht in die Realität überliefern.

How would you describe your style?
It's quite eclectic, to be honest. We intentionally avoid replicating the same style in each project. I find inspiration in various elements such as Minimalism, Old English Mansions, Navajo patterns, 60’s lighting, and Hamptons style. Our projects represent a synthesis of these diverse tastes, steering clear of the straightforward path of historical reconstitution. These references act as echoes, translating old memories into touches within a minimalist and simple space. Memory, in our view, is always more magical in the fantasy we retain than in its reality.

Wie sieht der kreative Prozess aus, den du normalerweise durchläufst, wenn du dich einem Projekt näherst.
Unser Ansatz basiert nicht auf einer Formel oder Automatismus. Jedes Projekt ist spezifisch für eine Begegnung, einen Ort und einen Kontext. Aus diesen Grundlagen ist unsere einzige Richtlinie, eine Geschichte zu erzählen. Wir bauen diese Geschichte in Bildern und Worten auf. Das ermöglicht es uns, vom räumlichen Schema bis zu den Details zu zoomen und jedes Konzept mit einem 360°-Blick zu betrachten. Inspiration kann dann von überallher kommen, unsere Kunden und die Räume sind sehr kommunikativ.

Please explain the creative process that you usually go through when you approach a project?
Our approach isn't formulaic or automatic. Each project is unique, stemming from a specific encounter, place, and context. Our sole guideline is to tell a story. We develop this narrative through images and words, allowing us to zoom in from the spatial scheme to the details, considering each concept from a 360° perspective. Inspiration can strike from anywhere; our clients and the spaces themselves contribute significantly to the conversation.

Was macht für dich einen Raum besonders?
Stille und Lärm. Mir gefällt es, wenn ein Raum die Schönheit von Material, Möbeln, Kunstwerken oder einer Aussicht offenbart. Es ist schwer zu erklären, aber manchmal gibt es eine bestimmte Harmonie, die von Asymmetrie oder Einfachheit getrieben wird. Das ermöglicht es, Leben in Objekte, Kunst und Emotionen zu bringen.

What is it that makes a room special to you?
The interplay between silence and noise. I appreciate when a space unveils the beauty of materials, furniture, artworks, or a view. It's challenging to articulate, but sometimes there's a certain harmony driven by asymmetry or simplicity. This harmony breathes life into objects, art, and emotions.

Wie lebst du privat? Was ist dir wichtig, wenn du einen Ort zum Leben wählst?
Ich lebe in einer Wohnung nicht weit vom Eiffelturm und dem Boulogne-Wald entfernt, versteckt in einem Block alter Backsteingebäude mit Türmchen und Gärten. Wir sehen den Himmel und die Bäume, es ist sehr ruhig. Unser Zuhause spiegelt wirklich den Geschmack unserer Familie wider, viele Bücher, eine gemütliche Ecke, ein Kamin, im britischen Stil. Die Nachbarschaft ist sehr familiär, voller Leben mit niedrigen Gebäuden, die mich irgendwie an die Normandie erinnern. Paris ist eine Stadt, in der man wirklich einen Rückzugsort zum Meditieren, braucht.

How would you describe the way you live yourself? What is important to you when you choose a place to live in?
I reside in an apartment not far from the Eiffel Tower and Boulogne Woods, nestled in a block of old brick buildings with turrets and gardens. The view of the sky and trees creates a tranquil atmosphere. Our home reflects our family's taste – filled with books, a cozy corner, a fireplace, all in a British style. The neighborhood is familial and vibrant, characterized by low buildings reminiscent of Normandy. In a city like Paris, having a retreat, a hideaway for meditation, is essential.
